This Land & Property Information System will be a cross-departmental initiative between Central and Local Government to provide an online one-stop-shop, enabling land and property related information that is held by many public and private sector organisations to be accessed from a single point.
Several of the Land and Property sectoral Group members are already implementing GIS to aid their internal business processes e.g. Land Registers of Northern Ireland (LRNI), the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), Planning Service and VLA. The integration of land and property data from across the public sector land and property community, together with GI from other organisations, into an online Land and Property Information System has a wider interest to the public and private sector. The Land and Property Sectoral group have agreed that the primary objective for the land and property project will be to prove, through a pilot demonstrator in a single Local Council area (North Down Borough Council), the viability of operating a real land and property information system application using the Pointer database as the link between the application and the appropriate data providers and, if successful, to implement the system across Northern Ireland.
Project Objectives: • Promote the sharing and exchange of land & property information across the public service to enable more informed policy-making; and • Facilitate access to government (local and central) information by the Public, thus ensuring more citizen-centric service delivery and satisfying Freedom of Information legislative requirements
