It has been recognised by the Geographic Information Strategy for Northern Ireland that there are two major barriers which are hindering the uptake and recognition of GI as a valuable tool in our society's future.  The first problem is the lack of awareness regarding GI's potential and secondly the lack of education on how to exploit it and its associated technologies.

Mosaic is taking steps to address these problems in a number of ways.  Firstly through the formation of and Education and Awareness sectoral group.  This group consists of  members, from various organisations such as QUB, University of Ulster, C2K, CCEA, DENI, SELB and NEELB.  They seek to raise awareness of GI and GI applications and educate current and potential users through a programme of events co-ordinated across all sectoral groups.  Minutes and contact details regarding the education sectoral group can be found under the heading education and awareness on the left.
